Dinosaur Mayhem in 35mm - Friday, August 6th, 2010 at McMenamin's Bagdad Theater • $3 admission, 21 and over.

WHAT: Jurassic Park – The Cort and Fatboy Midnight Movie
WHEN: Friday, August 6th, 11:00pm
WHERE: McMenamin’s Bagdad Theater
HOW MUCH: $3.00 admission. Must be 21 or older

Jurassic Park is probably the closest Spielberg has come to the thrill-ride heights of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Some might say that nothing he’s done since Raiders has come close to that masterpiece, but let me ask you this: Did Raiders of the Lost Ark have friggin’ DINOSAURS in it? No, it did not. And in a world where we’re inundated with schlock like Dinocroc, it’s nice to be reminded that at one point in the early 90′s, someone knew how to make these things look nice and scary. The people in the movie ain’t too bad, either: Richard Attenborough, Samuel L. Jackson, Laura Dern, and nerd heartthrob Jeff Goldblum at his smarmiest.

Many haven’t seen this spectacle on a screen bigger than their TV. Those lucky enough to have done so, probably haven’t seen it in a theater since the summer of 1993. Now’s your chance to relive those days (for the first time, in some cases) at one of the finest beer theaters in the entire country, McMenamin’s Bagdad Theater on SE Hawthorne Blvd.

Pre-show entertainment will be a blast of 80′s nostalgia: An episode of 1980′s TV series “Amazing Stories” will play while people work their way through the concession line and settle in for a long night of prehistoric mayhem. The chosen episode is “The Mission,” directed by Spielberg, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Casey Siemaszko, and Kevin Costner.

Admission is, as always, 3 dollars. The doors will open at 10pm, the Amazing Stories episode will start shortly thereafter, and the movie will begin at 11pm. A commentary, featuring Mike Russell (The Oregonian) David Walker (BadAzzMofo.com) Erik Henriksen (The Portland Mercury) and Dawn Taylor (Cinematical.com/pdx.fm’s Ham-Fisted Radio & Legion of News) will be made available for download the day before the screening so viewers can, if they choose, load up their iPod/mp3 player and bring the conversation in with them.

About Cort and Fatboy
“Cort and Fatboy” airs 10am-11am, Monday thru Friday, at http://www.pdx.fm. Episodes of the show, along with previous Midnight Movie commentaries, and the Jurassic Park poster artwork, can be downloaded athttp://www.cortandfatboy.com

You wanna see Inception? Sure you do. If the freaky dreamscape in the trailers didn’t do it, if the promise of Joseph Gordon Levitt, Leo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Ellen Page, and Michael Caine acting their asses off didn’t do it, if the advance notice that this is Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece didn’t do it, I’m betting that BWAANGGGGGGG did.

You know there’s only one theater in PDX equipped to properly handle that level of BWANGGGGGGG.

10:30pm on Friday, July 16th, we’re hosting yet another in our series of Loud Shows at The Roseway Theater, home of the finest a/v presentation in Portland. You can purchase tickets now at rosewaytheater.com (click the “About/Info” link) or simply show up at the box-office around 10:00 and buy there.

If you haven’t been to the Roseway yet, this is definitely a great choice of film to show off the fabulousness of the theater. If you have been to the Roseway, you already know this is the best place to see Christopher Nolan’s mind spill all over the big screen.

Spread the word, and experience this Summer’s saving grace with us at The Roseway Theater, Friday, July 16th, 10:30pm

Mt Tabor Theater
4811 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Portland, OR
taborpdx.com

When: Thursday, July 15 at 7pm

Featured Movie:

Johnny Mnemonic (1995)
The year is 2021, and half of the Earth’s population is suffering from the disease known as Nerve Attenuation Syndrome (NAS). Johnny, a mnemonic data courier, is hired to carry 320 gigabytes of crucial information to safety from the Pharmacom corporation. Pursued by Yakuza agents and a crazed cyborg, Johnny must deliver the data or die in twenty-four hours.

About 7th Planet Picture Show

7th Planet PIcture Show is an MST3K-inspired live celebration of cinematic camp, taking place twice a month at the Mt. Tabor Theater in Portland, Oregon. Will Radik and 2 or more hardened camp cinema veterans will face down some of the most ridiculous, awkward, and tasteless films born unto this pitiless earth, with only microphones (and probably alcohol). Audience members are not only allowed but encouraged to shout at the movie themselves and leave their cell phones on.

Though the live commentary is the heart of the show, it doesn’t stop there. At the end of the film, audiences may want to mill around the luxurious and dark Mt. Tabor lounge, perhaps discussing the finer points of the cinematic piece they’ve just viewed. At this point, Will may show clips or behind the scenes footage pertaining to the film, ridiculous clips of just about anything else, trailers, or even another movie. Beyond the main film and commentary, 7th Planet Picture Show is, well, like a bo-. Never mind.

Did I mention there’s a bar right in the back of the lounge where the movies are shown? Well, there is. You can even watch it from a barstool. Isn’t that grand?

7pm, 21 and Over, Free Admission. Suggested donation $5 (entirely optional)

Where are you going to be on July 2 and 3 this year? How about joining the PDX.FM crew down at the Pioneer Courthouse Square for 30 Hour Day? That’s right, watch in awe as a few of your favorite (or not-so-favorite) PDX.FM personalities push the limits of endurance – and hopefully have some fun doing it – while helping make 30 Hour Day a reality this year.

What’s 30 Hour Day?

We’re glad you asked. 30 hour day is a project developed by Cami Kaos of Strange Love Live and Rick Turoczy of Silicon Florist. The concept? Livestream a variety of entertainment for 30 hours straight in an effort to raise money for charities.

What’s PDX.FM doing for 30 Hour Day?

In short, probably busting some serious ass running the audio for the whole damn thing. Beyond that though, we’ll be broadcasting a special Saturday morning edition of Morning Submission at 8am on July 3rd, as well as quite a few other fun little odds and ends throughout the event. Check back for more details as they become available.

What do I do?

Join us July 2 and 3 for entertainment, interviews, and interesting goings on—while helping some very worthwhile causes. All from the cozy warmth of your own Web browser.

More details are now available at www.30hourday.org

The Cort and Fatboy Midnight Movie

INDEPENDENCE DAY (1996)

Maybe the most obvious Midnight Movie pick we’ve ever made, and yet, sometimes the obvious choice is the right one. And hey, if anyone wants to let Leverage Producer Dean Devlin know that we’re showing this thing on Friday, July 2nd, please do. He might like to see it on a big screen with a hungry crowd for the first time since 1996. You might want to, as well. Lotta you haven’t seen it the way it should be seen since then. A lotta you haven’t EVER seen it projected on a giant screen in 35mm. Rectify that.

3$ Admission. 21 and Over. Doors at 10pm, Film at 11pm. Tell your friends. Don’t let them miss the glory of Randy Quaid giving a spaceship an airplane enema. The power of the most badass macbook of all time. The awesome leaping power of a pole-dancer’s beloved pet. And of course, Will Smith saying “Hi” the best way he knows how.

Hope to see you there.

Each hunk of fake-o baco will bank your team bonus points before the game even begins. Not so good at meat trivia? Not to worry—there will be plenty of other questions about various subjects including potatoes, roller derby, and other non-edible things that make you go mmmmm. So come down to any pub quiz location this week and rip off a meaty piece of bloody good trivia. You and your homies just may walk out with a pound of prizes or a wad of cash for the effort!

You’ll want to be at the Bagdad Theater June 4th, then. Because for the first time in a very, very long time (almost 20 years) Terminator 2: Judgment Day will be screened, in 35mm.

Now, you could say “Forget it” and wander off to a multiplex where you’ll pay about 4x as much cash to see that new Ashton Kutcher flick, or the one where the tubby dude from Superbad has to get the Yahoo Serious lookin dude from Forgetting Sarah Marshall to a concert. OR – you could plunk down 3 bucks, enter the best beer theater on the west coast, and experience what many consider one of the best action movies ever made. AAAAAH! at all the pretty state-of-the-art-1991 Effects. OOOH! at Arnie’s physique. EWWWWW at Linda Hamilton’s physique. YEEEAAH! at the sheer amount of destruction onscreen at any given moment.

Tickets are $3. Must be 21 or older to attend.

Doors at 10p, Film at 11p

When: Friday, April 2nd

About Mallrats

Last Month, the Blues Brothers got a 30th Birthday party from Cort and Fatboy. This month, we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Mallrats’ release by making it the Midnight Movie for April. Not only is it a cheap excuse to larf heartily at the cartoonish exploits of Jay and Silent Bob whilst supping tasty brews and enjoying all manner of bar food, it’s also a chance to culturally educate yourself on Mid-Nineties Mediocrity. Not just a goofy teen comedy, this movie details the conundrum of Superman’s sexual reproduction, and addresses the problems inherent in spooning, as well as illuminating the discomfort involved when having sex in the back of a Volkswagen Bug. And before you ask: No, the Bagdad will not be offering Chocolate-Covered Pretzels on its menu for the night.

Bring friends, because Mallrats is always best viewed in the company of chums. And for anyone who actually brings Kevin Smith, you will be rewarded with free entry AND an autographed picture of us with Kevin Smith. Doors at 10p, pre-show entertainment will include Kevin’s short film “The Flying Car,” and an episode of the Clerks Animated Series, and then MALLRATS will begin at 11pm. 3$ to get in, You must be 21 and Over to enter.

Starring Jason Lee (Enemy of the State) Ben Affleck (Phantoms) Shannen Doherty (Blindfold: Acts of Obsession) Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder) Jason Mewes (Mallrats) and Kevin Smith (Live Free or Die Hard)

*** PRE-REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED! ***
30 people. 30 hours. Over 1,000 servings of beer. What could possibly go wrong?

We love 30 Hour Day. Who didn’t? All that Portland do-goodery wrapped in a nice live, streaming telethon. We’re already looking forward to the next one.

Then we had an idea. What if, instead of a 30 hour telethon, we did a 30 hour marathon? And how do we make that marathon scream “Portland” in big bold letters?

Introducing 30 Hour Drunk

30 people. 30 hours. Over 1,000 servings of beer.

All of it live on PDX.FM and all of it captured on HD video.

A once in a lifetime event, because who in their right mind would want to do it twice?

Friday, April 16th, 2010 starting at 6pm

This PDX.FM event is NOT open to the public! You MUST be pre-qualified to participate.

Do YOU want to be a contestant in PDX.FM’s 30 Hour Drunk? Well it might be your lucky day. We’re now accepting pre-registration applicants to participate – all you have to do is tell us WHY we should select YOU by filling out the simple little form below.

Here’s a hint – be creative. We’re looking for people who can be entertaining, handle their drunk, and have a good time doing it. We’ll provide the beer, YOU provide the fun.

Assholes and career alcoholics need not apply.

Pre-registration has reached the 1,000 mark and is now CLOSED. Thank you for registering. We will be sending out acceptance emails to those who have been selected on Friday, April 2nd, 2010.

The Annual, Co-Ed, Naked Shopping Spree at The Red Light • February 21st at 5pm

Get Naked, Win Clothes:
Annual, Co-Ed, Naked Shopping Spree at The Red Light

Portland, OR – The Red Light Clothing Exchange, Portland’s celebrated buy-sell-trade men’s and women’s fashion emporium, will host their popular, annual Co-Ed Naked Shopping Spree on Sunday, February 21. Four contestants (2 male, 2 female) will strip down to nothing at 5 pm, then have three minutes to run through the 7500 sq. ft. store – in front a cheering crowd — and put on as many clothes as possible. Whoever pulls on the most garments wins everything on their body plus a $100 Red Light gift card. (Prizes will also be given to first, second, and third runners up.)

All customers over 18 who spend $20 or more at The Red Light between now and Feb. 12 are eligible to enter the drawing to compete in the Shopping Spree. So far, more than 60 people are entered. According to General Manager Ryan White, “some people are shy, but this is Portland. A lot of people are excited about the opportunity to run around naked in public. And to win a lot of clothes.”

Live music by local bands kicks off the in-store event beginning at 2 pm, and door prizes will be awarded throughout the afternoon. The Naked Shopping Spree begins at 5 pm. The public is encouraged to come and watch the event in-store and cheer on the competitors; the last Naked Shopping Spree attracted over 100 onlookers. The Red Light anticipates a bigger audience this year because, according to White, public interest in the event is higher than ever. “People are coming in everyday and asking about it. People are looking for cheap ways to have fun, and that’s what our Naked Shopping Spree is. It’s also a very ‘local’, very Red Light thing – you’ll never see an event like this happening at a chain store like Forever 21.”

Started in 1999, The Red Light Clothing Exchange is one of Portland’s most prominent independent businesses. It has been featured in numerous national and international media; it was named by GQ as one of the 100 best independent shops in the country and dubbed by Lucky as their favorite shopping destination in the city.

Come honor the life of The Swayze by watching him in one of the most ridiculously cheesy, questionably masculine and often unintentionally funny action flicks of the 80s. For god sakes, it’s Patrick Swayze. Are you really gong to tell me there is something better happening in this town than an hour an a half of a shirtless and mulleted Swayze dance fighting to Jeff Healey music? Because I can promise you, there is not.

Tell your friends, so long as those friends are 21 or older. Three bucks gets you into a movie that you can only see these days on TBS late at night, censored and cut for commercials. But NOT at the Bagdad.

Starting Saturday, November 14 through Earth Day on Thursday, April 22, bring your real fur apparel, including trims, accessories and shearling, to any Buffalo Exchange and let us know it’s a donation for Coats for Cubs. Since you’re donating to The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), condition is unimportant. Used furs provide bedding and comfort to orphaned and injured wildlife. Since 2006, Buffalo Exchange has collected a total of 3,885 used furs on behalf of Coats for Cubs.

To claim a tax deduction, please mail your fur directly to
The Humane Society of the United States
Attn: Coats for Cubs
2100 L St., N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20037.

The HSUS and Buffalo Exchange, an official endorser, ask you to voice support fo the Truth in Fur Labeling Act of 2009 (H.R. 2480/S.1076). If passed, this act would require all garments made with animal fur to say so on the label, helping consumers make more informed decisions. See http://www.hsus.org/furfree/news/truth_in_fur_labeling_law.html

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is the nation’s largest animal protection organization – backed by 11 million Americans, or one of every 28. For more than a half-century, The HSUS has been fighting for the protection of all animals through advocacy, education and hands-on programs. Celebrating animals and confronting cruelty — On the web at www.humanesociety.org.

Buffalo Exchange is unique because clothing and accessories are bought, sold and traded directly with store customers. Used clothes can be traded for any item in the store, including brand new clothing. The ever-changing inventory includes designer wear, basics, vintage, jeans, leather and one-of-a-kind items. Buffalo Exchange is a sustainable company that works to protect the environment by reusing and recycling clothing. The store donates to local nonprofit agencies in the community through its Tokens for Bags(r) program, which has generated nearly $320,000 for hundreds of nonprofits since 1994, saving 6.4 million bags. Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases, and Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to a charity of the customer’s choice. As of November 2009, the family-owned resale clothing business has 37 stores and 2 franchises in 14 states, with $59.8 million a year in sales. Based in Tucson, Arizona, Buffalo Exchange is an independent and privately held company and the founders manage the day-to-day business.
Student Demos And Scrimmage Showcase Real-World Robotics

Saturday October 24, 2009 at OMSI

Don’t miss the excitement when high school robotics teams from throughout the Northwest converge on the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) Saturday, Oct. 24, for a day of mechanical madness at the FIRST Robotics Showcase. Get an up-close look at these 120-pound student designed robots and see them in action.

Sixteen teams will compete in a scrimmage, Lunacy, where they are challenged to maneuver their robot around a field collecting “moon rocks” to put in their opponent’s trailers. Teams are members of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), which helps high school students discover the engaging process of innovation and engineering while demystifying math and science applications.

Another FIRST group, Hot Shots, will be on-site actively building and testing their robots for the FIRST Tech Challenge in February. Visitors will have the opportunity to try their hand at driving one of their robots.

In addition, Smart Move, a middle school FIRST LEGO League team will be actively designing robots and creating new missions for their projects which involved transforming transportation.

“This showcase by FIRST gives visitors a chance to get an up-close look at real world robotics and what the possibilities and limitations are in a really fun and dynamic way,” said David Perry, OMSI lead educator for the Technology Lab.

This OMSI event is a chance for parents, students, mentors, and sponsors to learn about FIRST and to get information about joining local teams or starting one of their own. Warning: Getting involved with FIRST can be habit forming! More information can be found at www.oregonfirst.org.

The event will be held in OMSI’s Auditorium and Classroom from 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Admission to this event is free, but does not include museum admission.

“We got RAVING reviews about your presentation; everyone loved it.”
- Sheri Fitts, Portland Female Executives

“It was such a treat to hear you speak last night. I learned a great deal, from your personal story to your teachings.”
- Regina Perata, Specializing in Top-Performing Individuals & Teams

“At a recent conference for women in journalism, I had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by Diana Page Jordan. I’m writing this to say how impressed I was with the delivery, style, content and presentation of her speech. She did a sensational job – well prepared, hip, entertaining and informative. It was extremely well received by her audience. After hearing it I wanted more – which is probably the greatest thing you can say about someone’s presentation. She is obviously a very bright and attractive woman. Talent doesn’t necessarily follow those admirable qualifications, though. But in this case, I believe it to be true.”
