We’re Live. Now What?

Launching something like PDX.FM probably seems easy from the outside. We’re not exactly changing the world here, I mean, at its core we’re running an 8-12 hour a day streaming internet station with some podcasting on the side. It isn’t rocket science. Well, what you see is really only part of it. Behind the scenes we’re gathering guests, plotting new shows, coordinating hosts, planning events, and dealing with the technical pieces (all too much) – all while trying to figure out how to make a living doing this thing that we love and all while living our respective personal lives. And isn’t that what life is all about?
So what the hell is this PDX.FM thing anyway?
We like to think of it as social audio entertainment for the people – the people of Portland, Oregon, who are our most favorite people in the world. You see, none of us are native Portlanders. I’m the closest thing to one by birth but mom and dad saw fit to raise me some 180 miles north of here – it wasn’t my choice. The wonderful thing about a place like Portland though is that so many interesting and entertaining people live here and call this place their home. Portland isn’t “weird” all by itself, it takes a community to make it that way, and it’s that community that we’re ultimately hoping to entertain with PDX.FM – or go flat broke trying.
Is it radio? Not really, though we know it shares some similarities. Is it podcasting? A little bit but a podcast is really just a content delivery system at the end of the day. No, PDX.FM is about our lives, the things we like to do, the places we like to eat and drink, our politics, our music, our art, our city. Yes, we know that not every show we do is going to resonate with every listener out there – that’s what makes Portlanders unique. We’re opinionated, creative people and we each have a story to tell.
We envision PDX.FM as Portland’s very own non-stop variety show. We’re here to entertain and inform and we’d like nothing better than for you to join us. We’re starting small because we are small but the beauty in that is that we don’t answer to anyone but you. We don’t have investors or stuffy guys in cheap suits telling us what we can and can’t do. We don’t have a marketing department analyzing every step and misstep we take.
We have something better. We have the weird little city called Portland.
